Greetings Region I,

I am Christopher Outlaw, your Region I Chairperson for 2023 – 2024.

I am excited to be welcoming you to the 2023 Region I Fall Regional Conference!!! The central theme for this year's conference revolves around Engineering CommUNITY, with an emphasis on unity. By coming together, I hope we can utilize FRC 2023 to grow our professional and social networks, strengthen our academic and strategic acumen, and graduate as empowered black engineers! I hope that this event leaves you with a greater understanding of how NSBE can assist you during and beyond your collegiate chapter.

By attending this conference, your commitment to your chapter and its advancement is recognized. I remember my first Fall Regional Conference serving as the catalyst for where I am today. This opportunity helped connect me with the academic resources, scholarships, and leadership training to push me to join the REB. Taking this step was daunting, but helped widen my perspective on the schools in my region, how NSBE operates on a regional and national level, and how I could create impact within the organization. Looking back, I’m glad I was able to attend and wish for all that and more to be your experience as well.

I hope everyone in attendance enjoys this year’s conference and can walk away feeling like a better leader than when you came in. I sincerely look forward to getting to interacting with you all throughout our time here in Atlantic City, NJ.

I'd just like to remind everyone who reads this letter that we are the great Region I, May our FIYAH burn bright now and forever!

With Passionate Fiyah,

Christopher Outlaw

ONE FIYAH! MO FIYAH!

Welcome to the New Jersey Zone!

This year's conference is set to take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, at the Atlantic City Convention Center, spanning from Thursday, November 2nd to Sunday, November 5th. On behalf of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Region I, we eagerly anticipate the participation of a remarkable assembly of nearly 700 dedicated members who share a common mission: to enhance the representation of culturally responsible Black engineers in the Northeastern regions of the United States and Canada.

The central theme for this year's conference revolves around Engineering CommUNITY, with an emphasis on unity. My sincere hope is that your participation in FRC 2023 will empower you to further develop your network, nurture your academic passions and eventual graduation, provide you with the tools to thrive in your professional journey, and ignite your creativity, now supplied with new avenues to explore with a S.T.E.M degree. It is my aspiration that you depart from this event with a clear understanding of the tools and resources that NSBE has to offer, on the organization’s journey to engineer the community we aim to see.

The goal of this year's FRC is to equip you with the necessary resources to facilitate the realization of your life's aspirations while passing the torch of knowledge and experience to the next generation. These invaluable tools will be acquired through engaging and interactive workshops, networking with corporate representatives at the dynamic Career Fair and Technical & Innovation Exposition, and by forging lasting connections with individuals from various corners of the region, ensuring that the torch of inspiration and expertise continues to illuminate the path forward.

With NSBE’s torch illuminating the way, the 2023 Fall Regional Conference is dedicated to fostering enduring skillsets, building networks that will serve as the bedrock for our future careers, and deepening our understanding of NSBE's core mission pillars. This year's FRC simply wouldn't be possible without the participation of each and every one of you, and Region I is excited about the prospect of our collective gathering. It's through our unity that we embody the essence of S.T.E.M., passing the torch along it is evident, we are ONE FIYAH, ONE FAMILY!

Warmly With Fiyah,

Orianna Carter
