REGION I CHAIR
Christopher Outlaw
I am a junior at Northeastern University studying Industrial Engineering. I chose to join NSBE because I wanted to grow and meet engineering students that look like me. Attending a PWI, I knew that finding my community would help me traverse my college career. This was elevated by attending y first annual convention in Anaheim and joining my executive board .Upon joining my executive board and attending RLC, I recognized that serving on the REB could help me develop my leadership skills and create change in the region. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone but helped me diversify my skill set as a leader!

I am a graduate student studying Packaging Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. I have been a general body member of NSBE since 2013! During that time I held the role of Senator, Telecommunications Chair, and Chapter President at various points in my career. NSBE has given me many tools that have helped me develop my professional career. It has opened doors to many different job opportunities in various fields and it has been exciting to pass the knowledge on to my counterparts!

Fun Fact: I used to be a lifeguard!

I am a 5th-year Electrical & Computer Engineering major at New York Institute of Technology Old Westbury! I joined NSBE freshmen year of college as the PCI chair at my chapter. Covid soon hit and all the high school connections I had made with neighboring schools fizzled as they tried to acclimate to the "new normal". Sophomore year was an online blur but once Junior year came, life became a little more in-person, and it was during this time I attended my first-ever leadership conference as Vice Chair of my chapter. That's when I decided to join the REB! NSBE has helped me to become more decisive, I've learned to make decisions that I would normally skate around. I'm still learning how to delegate properly and be more decisive, but NSBE is constantly forcing me to work to improve of these attributes, which I appreciate!

Fun fact: I am left-handed!

I am a senior majoring in Civil Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology! I was first introduced to NSBE my freshman year of college through a mentor who suggested I join the organization! However, due to covid, the organization was not the same and I was not very active. I noticed that because of this inactivity there was no community for black engineers on my campus to have a safe space. Coming into my junior year I wanted to do all I can to create such a space and joined our chapter's E-board. NSBE has provided with plenty of networking opportunities as well as a place to be myself with people who look like me and I am honored to help others in any way I can!

Fun Fact: I am scuba certified!

REGION I ADVISORY BOARD CHAIR
Desmond St. Rose
By thinking positively, focusing on the future, and adding value to others is how Desmond St. Rose sees himself. Desmond is a certified leader within The John Maxwell Team and is certified as a Trainer, Coach, Mentor, speaker, and behavioral consultant. His mission is to develop leaders within their awareness, to enhance leader’s ability in becoming a person of influence, and closing the gap that prevent people from living intentionally. Desmond graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Master’s degree in Reliability and Systems Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering. Desmond worked as an auto and diesel mechanic to support his means necessary to survive and later as an aircraft maintenance mechanic after getting his Aircraft Technology Degree from the University of the District of Columbia. Desmond is the Regional Advisory Board Chairperson for Region1 and a lifetime member of NSBE. At the University of Maryland College Park, he held all five positions of the administration zone of the NSBE chapter and was instrumental in creating the diversity council and starting the Order of Engineering. Desmond learned to play the steelpan and tassa drums at an early age because music is the catalyst that causes the vibration of the mind’s energy. This mixture of culture, hands on approach, and leadership provided Desmond with the knowledge of building relationships and working with others by applying the “Law of Sacrifice – Great Leaders give a whole lot more than they take to make the ultimate sacrifice that often leads to the ultimate realization of a vision.”
Fun Fact: Playing the steelpan on the road during Trinidad and Tobago carnival.
